Fredo is a fabric toy bear created by two talented interior designers, Luis Martin Sordo, and Juan Salvador Martinez. Sordo and Martinez put together the "Fredo & Friends Auction." It is an event to raise money for foundations that support disadvantaged children. In 2010 for the first time, Sordo and Martinez gave a Fredo to different Mexican personalities in its simplest form to transform it into a unique copy. Later those bears would be auctioned, and the funds raised donating the chosen charity.
In 2017, the presidents of Rotary International brought the event "Fredo & Friends Auction" to the capital of the state of Veracruz, located in southeast Mexico. They invited me to artistically transform a Fredo to raise money to help children with cancer.
I named my design concept "Fredo of the Good Wishes." My inspiration came from the iconic figure of Santa Claus, who brings gifts to well-behaved children on the night of Christmas Eve. My idea was to create a Fredo bear, bringing presents full of good wishes to children with cancer. I chose 12 words to represent each month of the year and the things kids need to thrive. To illustrate the words, I painted patterns all over Fredo's body. The colors and graphics symbolize each wish, and the same illustrations combine with the gifts. I want to convey that as a society, we have the responsibility to nurture children in need with health, love, hope, security, happiness, faith, dreams, companionship, luck, tranquility, joy, and wisdom.
