Fredo is a fabric toy bear designed by Luis Martin Sordo and Juan Salvador Martinez, who organized the "Fredo & Friends Auction" to raise money for foundations supporting disadvantaged children. In 2010, they gifted a simple Fredo bear to various Mexican personalities, encouraging them to personalize it. The unique bears were later auctioned, with the proceeds donated to selected charities.
In 2017, the presidents of Rotary International brought the event "Fredo & Friends Auction" to the capital of Veracruz, located in southeastern Mexico. They invited me to artistically transform a Fredo to raise money to help children with cancer.
I named my design concept "Fredo of the Good Wishes," inspired by Santa Claus, who brings gifts to children on Christmas Eve. I created a Fredo bear to deliver presents filled with good wishes to children with cancer. I chose 12 words to represent what kids need to thrive, painting patterns on Fredo's body with colors and graphics that symbolize each wish. My aim is to highlight our responsibility as a society to nurture children in need with health, love, hope, security, happiness, faith, dreams, companionship, luck, tranquility, joy, and wisdom.
